Copacabana CLP 11301

Cavaquinho player and composer Tico-Tico has his premiere on Parallel Realities with his only career album, recorded in 1963. As far as I could find out his discography consists, besides the LP presented, of an collaboration album with Altamiro Carilho recorded at an unknown date and two 78 rpms.

Banda Vila Rica for the first time on Parallel Realities with their, as far as I know, only album, recorded in 1958.

More about this release you may read on the back cover text written by Lúcio Rangel, where the most important fact (according to my poor knowledge of Portuguese) is that it is a group of professional musicians gathered together by Maestro Oswaldo Borba, while the orchestration has been done by captain Antônio Pinto Jr.

Looks like the comments under one of the previous posts caught the attention of our friend Edson Mendes, reminding him of an aquisition on a music fair: A compilation album of Valéria whose voice was the topic of some of the comments.

In short, when opening my mail this evening, I found a nice package waiting for me to download and I (as you might well imagine) did it immediately.

Britinho, Seu Piano e Sua Orquestra - Convite Ao Samba (1956)

Sinter SLP 1093

A 10' LP rarity by  João Leal Brito aka Britinho (not to mention his numerous other names), with two uninterrupted sides of pure samba. Needless to say that the package contains side A and side B plus all the compositions separated into individual tracks.

The music invites the listener to step on the dance floor and the front cover picture says the same. The back cover text even displays the names of the peformers and their respective instruments:

Hélio Marinho (sax-tenor)
Vivi (clarinete)
Vidal e Bill (baixo)
Hugo (bateria)

Steve Bernard com Orquestra e Coro - Top Hit Party (1960)

Continental LPP 3108

Steve Bernard has been presented in this reality on two compilation albums of the Discoteque Dancante series, but although he has recorded at least 12 career albums, this is his first career album presented here.

A short text under one of these two compilations, written by our friend Frank-Oliver, reveals that Steve was born 1915 in Romania, lived in Vienna and finally emigrated to Brazil. It also raises a strong suspicion about his name, as, although the Romanian border is less than 100 km away from Belgrade, I have never met or heard about a Romanian with even a similar name.

Frank-Oliver pointed out the fact that on Steve Bernard's album Ritmo Espetacular an interesting lady with the name of Valéria is singing, an information that also moved Steve's discography into the focus of my interest (incredible, but there it is).

An additional enquiery shows that Valéria is singing on at least three of his albums, among them on this one presented today.

Now, finaly, after listening to Top Hit Party, I am able to say:

She is interesting indeed, Frank!

01. Like Young (André Previn)
02. Conversa da Madrugada (Nazareno de Brito / Ribamar) com Valéria
03. Carinho e Amor (Tito Madi)
04. Talk To Me (E. Snycer / S. Kahan / R. Valles) com Valéria
05. Eu Não Tenho Onde Morar (Dorival Caymmi) com Joab Teixeira
06. Marina (Rocco Granata)
07. O Samba É Bom Assim (Norival Reis / Hélio Nascimento)
08. Menina Moça (Luis Antônio) com Valéria
09. Small World (Jule Styne / Stephen Sondheim)
10. The Blob (M. David / Burt Bacharach)
11. Um Chorinho Pra Você (Severino Araújo)
12. That Old Black Magic (Harold Arlen / Johnny Mercer) com Joab Teixeira, Steve Bernard e Valéria

Besides Frank-Oliver's text, you may also read the linear notes on the back cover written by Silvio Tulio Cardoso.

OH, VALÉRIA...

STEVE'S REAL NAME + A QUESTION by Bossanov:
According to great Dicionario Cravo Albin da MPB real name of Steve Bernard is Stephen Bernhardt.
Is this Valéria also singer on great G/9 LP "Brazil Now!" with Dom Salvador and Wilson das Neves

STEVE'S REAL NAME by Sandra Bernhardt: Seu nome era húngaro, István. Brassó era húngara até 1920 e passou a romena em 1920. Mudou o nome para Stephen ou Stephane com fins artísticos e depois no Brasil para Steve Bernard.

Luizinho e Seu Conjunto - Um Baile Com Luizinho (1958)

Columbia LPCB 37015

The newest package sent to us by Pedro & 300discos contains several ultra goodies, making it extremely difficult to choose which album to post as first. I narrowed the candidates down to two, as both are on my Santa Claus list. Then by recording date.

Luizinho (whoever he might be) and his conjunto on a re-edition of their 10' LP released in 1957, with four additional tracks, recorded especially for this album: Cha-Hua-Hua and Conselho which were previously released as 78 rpms and Mambo do Galinho and Graças a Deus.

The back cover displays a long text by Ricardo Macedo about famous Luizinho, his music, the songs played, but Ricardo takes it for granted that the reader knows exactly who Luizinho is, probably because it is a name very, very rare in Brazil, almost as rare as Zezinho...

So, still no explicit proof about Luizinho's identity, which should not spoil your pleasure listening (or dancing) to these songs:

01. Canção do Mar (Ferrer Trindade / Frederico Brito)
02. Peguei Um Ita No Norte (Dorival Caymmi)
03. Cha-Hua-Hua (Joe Lubin / Irving Roth)
04. Mambo do Galinho (Betinho / Nazareno de Brito)
05. Xótis Do Netinho (Ângelo Apolônio ''Poly'' / Victor Dagô)
06. Assobiador Preguiçoso (The Lazy Whistler) (H. Biddy / H. Hollanger)
07. La Goualante Du Pauvre Jean (Marguerite Monnot / René Rouzaud)
08. Biruta (Castro Perret / Amado Régis)
09. Conselho (Denis Brean / Osvaldo Guilherme)
10. Graças A Deus (Fernando César)
11. Vivo a Chorar (Porfírio Damasceno)
12. Lisboa Antiga (Raul Portela / Amadeu do Vale / José Galhardo)

Although the cover shows unmistakeable traces that it has been lying in a damp place and the cardboard got damaged by water, the vinyl itself sounds like it was just printed: No scratches, no noise, absolutely clear and fresh:

Celio Balona e Seu Conjunto - Em Ritmo de Amar (N/D)

MGL MGLP 3003

Célio Balona, for the first time posted on Parallel Realities.
I am stressing the word posted, as actually some time ago one of his albums sent by Pedro & 300discos has been rejected by Depositfiles as copyrighted.
Let's hope that this time it will not happen, as this LP, although undated, seems to be his first career album out of altogether 6, the latest been realeased on CD five years ago. My guess is that Em Ritmo de Amar has been released at the end of the fifties or beginning of the sixties.

Enjoy these prominently organ-ized renditions of:

01. O Caderninho (Olmir Stocker ''Alemão'')
02. I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover (Mort Dixon / Harry Woods)
03. Once In a While (Michael Edwards / Bud Green)
04. T'Aimer Follement (Makin' Love) (Floyd Robinson / Vrs. André Salvet / Vrs. Jacques Plait)

EDIT: I just found out that this album is a "greatest hits" collection by Luis Eça alias Luizinho + his conjunto

THE PIANO PLAYER ? by Denis:
Luis Eça never recorded in São Paulo
This Piano player i belive that can be Luis Schiavo, on the guitar is Angelo Apolonio (Poli).

MYSTERY OR CONFUSION by Frank-Oliver:
Some serious websites lists Luizinho's Sambas de Saudade album as by Luis Eça, but they don`t mention the other Columbia Luizinho albums, other Eça discographies even did not list Sambas de Saudade. On the cover of the Luizinho album Sucessos do Momento the piano player does not look like Eça, but it is not sure, that this is a picture of the real artist. I never heard of Luis Schiavo, that is a real mystery.

LUIS SCHIAVO by Denis:
I try to contact Nelson Ayres, he was a student of Luiz Schiavo the piano player of this time I know is Luis Schiavo.
This 2 Label of Luizinho is same piano player
Luis Eça is very much modern with Harmonies and Style
Others pianist with name LUIZINHO, Luis Mello and Luis Loy, but style totally different.
Luis Schiavo was piano player of the Theaters (cinemas) in São Paulo. Poli is on the guitar SURE.
About Angelo Apolonio o Poli:

Elcio Alvarez e Sua Orquestra - O Maximo Para O Seu Baile (1962)

Chantecler CMG 2162

Élcio Álvarez with orqchestra and mixed choir delivers some high class music for celebrations, parties with dancing and drinking or just plain listening.

A text by Walter Sperandos, (Disc Jockey Radio Cacique, Santos) about this recording + a portrait of Élcio Álvarez may be found on the back cover, so I suggest reading it (if you understand Portuguese, of course).

You don't have to understand Portuguese or any other language to take a look at Élcio's portrait and enjoy these instrumental compositions with the choir singing without explicit textual messages:

01. The Exodus Song (Ernest Gold / Pat Boone)
02. Let's Twist Again (Kal Mann / Dave Appel)

Portinho e Sua Orquestra - Fogo Nos Metais (1965)

Continental PPL 12203

This album by Portinho has been already posted in another reality, as well as on Loronix (you may read Zeca's text about it on Órfãos do Loronix).

Os Satelites - Arrasta A Sandalia (1957)

Odeon MOCB 3016

Mixed vocal conjunto Os Satélites for the first and unfortunately probably the last time on Parallel Realities as this is, as far as I could find out, their only career album, and so far I did not see any compactos or 78 rpms mentioned.

There is almost nothing I can tell you about Os Satélites as I do not know anything.

The back cover text, written by Lúcio Rangel, does contain some historical facts about Samba (starting from 1917), with focus on the individual compositions and their composers, also a few words about Maestro Pachequinho who has done the arrangements and, if I understood right, his orchestra is performing the music.
Lúcio Rangel also clearly states that vocals are by Os Satélites but does not reveal neither names nor the number of members.

Don't get frustrated with lack of information, but let it launch you in orbit or on the nearest dance floor, as it is a perfectly performed and sung rarity containing the sambas:

01. Arrasta a Sandália (Osvaldo Vasques "Baiaco" / Aurélio Gomes)
02. É Bom Parar (Rubens Soares / Noel Rosa)
03. Mulher Exigente (Almirante)
04. Iaiá Do Balacuchê (Rubens Soares)
05. O Que Será de Mim (Ismael Silva / Nilton Bastos / Francisco Alves)
06. Poeira (J. Santos / Abigail Moura)
07. Cai Cai (Roberto Martins)
08. Tava na Roda do Samba (Salvador Correia)
09. Foi Ela Quem Me Deixou (Luis Nunes Sampaio ''Careca'')
10. Diz Que Vai Vai Vai (Haníbal Cruz)
11. Na Pavuna (Almirante / Homero Dornelas)
12. Ba Be Bi (Luis Nunes Sampaio ''Careca'')

P.S. While searching for more information about Os Satélites, I found out that this album has been posted on Loronix, so on Órfãos do Loronix you may read Zeca's text, which, unfortunately, reveals no additional facts,

Luizinho e Seu Piano - Sambas da Saudade (1956)

Columbia LPCB 35019

To immediately reveal the identity of the mysterious Luizinho:
Luizinho is the famous piano player Luis Eça, who is, surprisingly, called just Luizinho on five albums recorded during the period from 1956 to 1958. Four of these albums are, surprisingly, on my Santa Claus list, while this one is not due to the fact that I have not been aware of it's existence until I, surprisingly, fished it out as first from the just arriving package sent by Pedro & 300discos.

Enjoy Luizinho's piano accompanied by conjunto and choir performing the sambas:

1. É Bom Parar (Rubens Soares / Noel Rosa) Samba
2. Morreu o Meu Primeiro Amor (Haroldo Lobo / Milton de Oliveira) Samba
3. Foi Ela (Ary Barroso) Samba
4. A Infelicidade Me Persegue (Assis Valente) Samba
5. A Coroa do Rei (Haroldo Lobo / David Nasser) Samba
6. A Primeira Mulher (Arnô Canegal / A. Espírito Santo / Albertina Da Rocha) Samba
7. Enlouqueci (Luis Soberano / Waldomiro Pereira / João Sales) Samba
8. Me Queimei (Antônio Nássara / Valfrido Silva) Samba
