Cipo e Seu Conjunto - Melodias Favoritas da Tela (1959)

Sinter SLP 1769

Not that this album has never before been presented on the net (it could be found on the, unfortunately closed, great site Um Que Tenha), but it is, for my taste, one of the most pleasant and cool albums by sax player and maestro Cipó who has already been prominently featured on Parallel Realities, with solo albums, compilations.and as backing band leader on albums by Sacha Rubin, who is playing piano on this masterpiece.

The complete list of musicians is:

Cipó (Saxofone alto)
Sacha Rubin (Piano)
Lumir Brov (Baixo)
Dom Um Romão (Bateria)
Jorge Arena (Bongô)

The evergreen jazz standards, masterfully performed, are:

01. Love Is A Many Splendored Thing (Paul Francis Webster / Sammy Fain)
On The Sunny Side Of The Street (Jimmy McHugh / Dorothy Fields)
02. Cry Me A River (Arthur Hamilton)
Unchained Melody (Alex North / Hy Zaret)
03. Only You (Buck Ram / Ande Rand)
Blue Moon (Richard Rodgers / Lorenz Hart)
04. You Belong To Me (Pee Wee King / Redd Stewart / Chilton Price)
I Love You Samantha (Cole Porter)
05. All The Way (Jimmy Van Heusen / Sammy Cahn)
With A Song In My Heart (Richard Rodgers / Lorenz Hart)
06. Le Grisby (Jean Wiener)
      Together (De Sylva / L. Brown / R. Henderson)
07. Manhattan (Richard Rodgers / Lorenz Hart)
Sonny Boy (Ray Henderson / Buddy DeSylva / Lew Brown / Al Jonson)
08. As Time Goes By (Herman Hupfeld)
Blue Gardenia (Lester Lee / Bob Russell)

Djalma Ferreira Apresenta O Grande Trumpetista Araken (1963 ?)

Discos Drink LP-DF-13.011

Araken Peixoto has been featured two times on Parallel Realities playing as member of Djalma Ferreira'a conjunto.
Now we have the opportunity to enjoy his solo album, recorded for Discos Drink, a company run by Djalma Ferreira. Araken has another album released for the same high spirited recording label, which has, by the way, published (as far as I could find out) altogether 11 albums, most of them starring, no surprise here, Djalma Ferreira with his conjunto.

The back cover displays a detailed text about Araken's personal life and career, written by the mIsterious Mister ECO .

The musicians playing together with Araken are:

Paulinho (Piano)
Evaldo (Guitarra)
Sebastião (Contrabaixo)
Fernando (Bateria)
Julinho e Canseira (Ritmo)
+ Coro

The compositions performed are

01. Isto É Samba (J. Canseira / Paulo Silva)
02. A Canção Que Nasceu do Amor (Rildo Hora / Clóvis Mello)
03. Amei Demais (Anselmo Mazzoni)  Vocal: Araken Peixoto
04. Johnny Guitar (Victor Young / Peggy Lee)
05. Reza Por Nosso Amor (Haroldo Lobo / Milton de Oliveira)
06. Vai Amor (Izaias Ferreira / Jorge de Oliveira)
07. Larga o Meu Pé (Monsueto / Aloísio França)  Vocal: Araken Peixoto
08. Serenata do Adeus (Vinicius de Moraes)
09. Aprendeu a Lição (Ataulfo Alves / Luiz Bandeira)  Vocal: Araken Peixoto
10. Passo do Elefantinho (Henry Mancini)
11. Manda Brasa (Pega Lenha) (Luiz Bandeira)  Vocal: Araken Peixoto
12. Moon River (Henry Mancini / Johnny Mercer)

PROBABLE RELEASE DATE by Brazilliance:
I assume, this fine album is from 1963 because the earliest verifiable recording of A Canção Que Nasceu do Amor is also from 1963 by Araken's brother Cauby Peixoto. Unfortunately, the catalogue numbers of Discos Drink are not exactly in chronological order which is why they are not reliable.

Moacyr Marques - 4 Sucessos (Compacto Duplo) (1960)

Tiger EP-TR-501

If I have understood the back cover text correctly, this should be Moacyr Marques' first recording.

The back cover of this unlisted rarity credits the whole formation of musicians participating:

Moacyr Marques - Sax-Tenôr
Zequinha Marinho - Piano
GabrieL - Basso
Wilson - Batteria
Pernambuco do Pandeiro e Pedro dos Santos - Ritmo

Also the 4 tracks (not included in any of his albums, as far as I know):

1. Menina Moça (Luiz Antonio)
2. Alguém Me Disse (Jair Armorim / Evaldo Gouvêia)
3. Me Leva (José Garcia / Anisio Silva / Silas de Oliveira)
4. Idéias Erradas (Dolores Duran / Ribamar)

MOACYR'S FIRST RECORDING

GUESS by Bossanov:
I think, Wilson is Wilson Das Neves, taking part at Jazz & Bossa-Nova on Tiger. May be Gabriel be Gabriel Bezerra de Mello?

DATE OF RECORDING APPROXIMATION by Frank-Oliver:
It seems this EP came before the Tiger LP, so the date is 1959 / 1960.

UPDATED EXPIRED LINKS by Milan Filipović:
I have updated the links in another reality to those albums by Moacyr Marques that could be re-uploaded.

OMERTA

Grazie a: Pedro & 300discos

REVIEW by Mr Memory:

Oswaldo Borba E Sua Orquestra Em Hi-Fi (1958)

Odeon MOFB 3050

Although Maestro Oswaldo Borba has been presented on Parallel Realities as participant or one of the artists in various artists compilations, and one compacto duple (released in former Yugoslavia), today I am happy to present him for the first time with a career album, recorded in '58 for Odeon.

The back cover shows a short text written by Aloysio de Oliveira about the technique and advantages of Hi-Fi, mentioning, by the way, also Oswaldo Borba by name, unfortunatelly without giving any details about his life, work, career or similar.

Anyway, Maestro Borba is quite well known, so just relax and enjoy his orchestral renditions (recorded in Hi-Fi) of:

01. Casa da Loló (Djalma Ferreira / José Bicalho)
02. Who's Sorry Now (Ted Snyder / Bert Karmer / Harry Ruby)
03. Viva Meu Samba (Billy Blanco)

Meninao No Samba (N/D)

Rosicler/Chantecler R-7015

Organ player Waldemar de Oliveira Garcia alias Meninão has his debut on Parallel Realities with his only career album, released by Chantecler at an unknown date.

There is nothing I can tell you about Meninão, as I was, up to now, not aware neither of him nor his music, so I suggest to read the text on the back cover about his personality, written by Paulo Queiroz.

Accompanied by orchestra and choir, he is delivering superb renditions of:

01. O Que É Que Eu Faço (Ribamar / Dolores Duran)

03. Rotina (Raul Sampaio / Benil Santos)

Na GafieIra E Assim (1958)

RGE XRLP 5009

Another masterpiece brought to us all thanks to Pedro & 300discos. A samba para dançar album from '58 featuring trombone player Eugène D'Hellemmes, accompanied by the Orquestra RGE with arrangements by Maestro Waldemiro Lemke and vocal soloists Mara Silva, Paul Moreno and Caco Velho.

As you might have guessed, the most pleasant surprise of this album are the two songs participation of Mara Silva, whose only career LP, Sucessos em Teleco-Teco is, from my point of view, one of the best samba recordings I have ever heard.

Altogether, a great release, consisting of these tracks:

01. Quero Um Samba (Wilson Batista / Waldemar Gomes) Eugène D'Hellemmes & Orquestra RGE
02. Estatutos de Gafieira (Billy Blanco) Raul Moreno
03. Gadu Namorando (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Ladislau P. da Silva) Eugène D'Hellemmes & Orquestra RGE

05. Samba Maestro (Alcebíades Nogueira) Eugène D'Hellemmes & Orquestra RGE
06. Você Vem Aí (Luis de França / Gil Lima) Caco Velho
07. Música Maestro (Arlindo Marques Júnior / Roberto Roberti) Eugène D'Hellemmes & Orquestra RGE
08. Quem É o Dono do Baile (Cristóvão de Alencar / Alcebíades Nogueira) Raul Moreno

EUGENE D'HELLEMMES by Frank-Oliver:
Eugène D'Hellemmes was a french trombone and bass player who often recorded in the company of Django Reinhardt in the 1930`s and 1940`s. It is a suprise to see him recording in Brazil in 1958.

Uma Noite No Pop-Show Camboriu (1971)

MusiColor LPK-20.241

Some time ago in this reality, another album (by sax player Dionysio) was presented, bearing the same title as the one presented tonight: Uma Noite No Pop-Show Camboriu.
Although the name is the same and the front cover very similar, this has nothing to do with Dionysio. It is more a various artists type of recording, where the basis and most songs are played by the Brazilian Show Band, the vocal soloists are Cyro Aguiar, Tony Campello and Vera Maria (whose way of singing reminds me of Lana Bittencourt).
What I could find out about Vera Maria amounts to nine 78 rpm albums, recorded in the period from 1959 to 1964. The back cover text mentions that Continental has found her in Blumenau (whatever Blumenau might be).

As you may imagine, in front of you is a truly interesting album, by the way, not mentioned on Memoria Musical...

In short: A rarity!

Enjoy, now that you have the chance to do it:

01. Brazilian Show Band: Bittersweet Samba (Sol Lake), O Samba É Bom Assim (Norival Reis / Helio Nascimento), Tempo Bom (Lilico / Grande Otelo), Pergunte Ao João (Milton Costa / Helena Silva), Lata D'Água (Luiz Antonio / J. Junior), Bittersweet Samba (Sol Lake)
02. Vera Maria: Quando (Noel Rosa de Oliveira / Hayblan)
03. Brazilian Show Band: Un Raio de Sol (A. Jean), Dum, Dum (S. Fheeley / J. de Shanon), Tomando Un Cafe, Hablemos de Amor (Palito Ortega)
04. Cyro Aguiar: Candida (T. Wine / I. Levine)
05. Tony Campello: Não Acredito (I'm A Believer) (Neil Diamond / Vers. Rossini Pinto)
06. Brazilian Show Band: I've Been Hurt (Ray Whitley), My Pledge Of Love (Joe Stafford Jr.)
07. Vera Maria: Adieu, Jolie Candy (M. Hursel)
08. Brazilian Show Band: Georgia On My Mind (H. Carmichael)
09. Brazilian Show Band: Procurando Tu (J. Luna / Antonio Barros)
10. Brazilian Show Band: Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head (B. Bacharach / H. David)

REVIEW by Alberto:

Kodak Revela A Musica: Delora Bueno (1963)

RCA Victor BBL 1225

A few days ago I received a mail from Edgar Cavaco who has uploaded this album by Delora Bueno upon a server for a friend. He sent the link also to me, so I can download it if I do not have it.

Well I had this album, downloaded from my friend Simon Boutman's long time ago closed marvellous site called Unbreakable Microgrooves but could not find it anywhere in my collection, as it got probably deleted by mistake during one of those HD formatting tasks performed after one of the crashes.

So, thanks to Edgar, I have it again and I understood this event as a sign that it should be shared also with all friends interested.

Enjoy Delora Bueno singing, sponsored by Kodak:

Walter Wanderley - Murmurio (1966)

Tower ST 5058

A selection of songs by the great Walter Wanderley, taken mostly from Samba No Esquema (presented on Parallel Realities, but deleted from server) for a North American audience, released by Tower, a recording company based in the USA.

To make it more clear and understandable to the targeted public, the company has also translated the song titles to English, adding to the confusion they have created with the back cover vs. labels list, so I added the original titles in brackets (to add to the confusion).

Anyway:

1. As Samba No Esquema got deleted for the usual reasons, so despite the fact that the upload of Murmurio went OK, i suggest to grab it today to avoid tomorrow the DOWNLOAD YESTERDAY advice.

2. Don't bother with the track listing, but close your eyes and drift away on organ waves to another time and space with:

01. Murmúrio (Djalma Ferreira / Luiz Antonio)
02. The Girl From Ipanema (Garota de Ipanema) (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
03. Zé From Conceição (Zé da Conceição) (João Roberto Kelly)
04. Only Samba (Samba Só) (Walter Santos / Tereza Souza)
05. I Only Dance The Samba (Só Danço Samba) (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
06. What Do I Like About You (O Que Eu Gosto de Você) (Silvio César)
07. Airplane Samba (Samba do Avião) (Tom Jobim)
08. Samba On The Beach (Bossa Na Praia) (Pery Ribeiro / Geraldo Cunha)
09. Melancholy (Melancolia) (Denis Brean)
10. The Brazilian Samba (Claribalte Passos)

The list of musicians on this album is:

Walter Wanderley: Órgão
